  1. I recommend doing a combination of online and in school learning, you can take more electives that way and more fun in school.  This option also allows you to do classes over the summer, a good option if you are in the state of Florida is Florida Virtual School, if you live in florida it is free.

  2. I am homeschooled, here are pros/cons. Because of my dissatisfaction with homeschooling, I am starting public school next year.

pros- You get to move at your own pace, academically.

You get to wake up and hour later

You get babysitting jobs that other people can't take because of school

You can practice your religion freely.

    cons- You might procrastinate things

lack of social skills or social time

    behind academically

    doesn't neccesarily count for college

  3. Pros:

-You don't really have to go anywhere.

    -You get to stay home.

-You have lunch whenever you want to.

-You can basically do whatever you want to as long as you are doing the work.

    -Saves gas

    -It's basically just plain convenient.

    Cons:

-You can miss out on social life

-You don't have much in-person contact with the online teacher

-You may have to end up driving a long ditance for tests and other exams.

-Some people may have trouble learning without visuals or having a teacher with them in the same room

-Your internet connection can go down

    -Your computer can crash

I took online classes and there were pretty okay with me. Sometimes it was rough but I got through the courses. With me I had a lack of communication with the teacher and the teacher would forget to tell me important things like test dates >_<

  6. Pros

The parents get to teach what they believe

    You et to sleep in

    You don't really fall behind

No home work(well its really all Home work)

    you finish way quicker.

    Cons

No after school stuff, Plays, sports

You don't get to hang out with friends at school

  7. I am schooling a child using an online school called Georgia Virtual Academy. Some of the positives are that we can have a more flexible schedule for going to appointments, lessons, traveling or just going grocery shopping. She was in sixth grade at a public school, but is now doing 8th grade work (algebra 1)  in math and seventh grade work in language and literature because she can work at her own pace. We also more involved with what she learning and can bring vocab, and social events into her school day. She has also learned to be more independent and self-motivated.

As for the negatives, all of the school work for a year was sent at once, but when she finished each subject we had to wait while new material was shipped to us.

She doesn't get the interaction that she would with a class, but the GVA program does have field trips and other opportunities to get together and meet other students. There are also chat rooms for the kids and online interactive sessions where kids can learn together, so that makes up for it a bit. My student did go to public school for k-5th grade, so she still keeps in touch with those friends too.

The biggest downside is that we have to pay for music lessons or for her to participate in club sports that are usually free at a public school.

I asked my student if she has anything to add and she thinks that the shorter school day (five-and-a-half hours compared to 7) is a big positive.

  8. Pros: Get to do school on your own time....Sleep as late as you want....Work on things more that mean to you....

CONS! God! And can't even get started on the cons! You miss out on so much, at the end of your high school years you're going to say the times I should have enjoyed went down the drain, and were alone....After awhile you don't know how to deal with people, you lose alot of skills education wise you learn in school, you realize no one gives a c**p about you (You learn in life either way, you just learn it earlier) you feel so left out....

I can go on forever, and it wouldn't matter, I'm alone in the way I feel about it anyway....I'm alone period....

I can only talk from my point of view....

    All my best....

  9. I feel bad for the ones that are saying they missed out on so much stuff, friends, school activities, sports. If their parents did homeschooling right, that stuff would be included. My grandchildren, who are homeschooled,  are not missing out on anything, and are very articulate, beyond their years, with inquisitive minds, and sharp sense of humor. They enjoy lots of friends and activities, and test above their age/grade level on all subjects.

  10. Our school system is broken.  Teachers today are nothing more than glorified baby sitters.  The amount of time they take off for nonsensical reasons is shameful.  The taxpayers work hard to make the money to support the schools and that money is abused.  Teachers do not want to teach, they want the parents to do it.  On top of everything else, the kids have to put up with the teacher's personality and attitude.  The answer is to get ride of the teachers and conventional schoolroom.  Implement learning centers where everyone is taught equally, at their learning level, by a pre-programed computer guides.  Privatize all extra curricular activities.  The parents can pay for what they want their kids to participate in.  This would reduce the cost of education significantly.  Get rid of the teachers and their union behind which they hide and give everyone a chance for a better education.

  11. There are no cons. Any problem you encounter can be maneuvered around or turned into an opportunity to adapt and learn. That is the beauty of freedom. If you are smart and willing to work, all of life is like that. I do not understand why people think homeschool = no social life. Many homeschooled kids, including my own have many friends and activities outside their homes. There are classes, clubs, neighborhood friends, malls, parks, movie theaters, libraries, mini golf, garage bands, sports teams, community gardens, cafe's, volunteer organizations, religious groups, museums, etc.  If with all of those opportunities you cannot build a social life, the constant exposure to your peers that public school provides might not help you much either. That exposure may create a false sense of belonging, but it does not teach you social skills. That is, unless you consider just being seated with 25 other bored students and inevitably catching some names and notice a skill. That “skill” won’t get you far in the real world.  It is all about recognizing and acting on opportunities.
