Pros and cons of working in a private day nursery?

  1. All nurseries are licenced therefore follow the same rules and guidelines. ALWAYS volunteer for a few weeks at any childcare setting you choose to work. It's a good idea to really get a feel for the environment you will be spending most of your time in. It can be all smiles and happy faces when you go for an interview or tour...but the reality is that it's not always like that when visitors are around. So, take my advice on this one...volunteer a few hours of your time for both private and non-private centres before accepting a position there. The worst thing that can happen is you have another experience to add to your resume.

  2. the thing with working in a day nursery is,

    1) longer hours or over time

    2) different age groups in

    3) your responible for your child ( ur a key worker)

    4) you may have to do the cooking and cleaning

    5) not so many breaks

    6) less holidays than if you were in a school

    1) less children to work on as you only have so many to watch as a key worker.

    2) can plan your own activites with them

    3) can expand on training and promote to management

    4) over time means more pay

    5) more of a home environement than a educated one
