Pros/cons of sharing water with the United States?

hypothetically, if Canada was asked to share our water (from James Bay or something) with the US, what would be the pros and cons for Canada?

  5. Is it fresh water or sea-resources pooling? Share or establish a market? Is it unilateral, or Canada gains rights in there too?

    The best theoretical reference for that would be Coase on establishing rights for rare resources — but without more details on what that deal is all about. . . hard to say, really.

  6. Isn't James Bay salt water?  I know canada shares hydroelectric power with the U.S. and the potential repercussions of that were seen in the U.S. when there was that massive east coast black out a few years back.

    The only cons of Canada sharing anything with the U.S. is that we will use up the resource faster than Canada will on their own.
