Prospect Brandon Rios rips into team Pacman
Chalk it up to the usual serving of Oxnard courage and bravado.
Boxing hopeful Brandon Rios, 24, who trains at Robert Garcia’s gym with Antonio Margarito in Oxnard, California, says that Manny Pacquiao and trainer Freddie Roach are scared and seeking a way out of upcoming
clash with Margarito.
“Pacman and Roach aren’t looking for the weigh in — they may be seeking a way out,” the undefeated Rios said to Michael Marley of the Boxing Examiner.
Rios, a lightweight fighter, is undefeated in 25 contests, with 18 knockouts. He is rated third amongst active lightweights in the United States by boxrec.com, and 13th internationally.
Pacquiao will be looking for his eighth division title when he touches gloves with Margarito on 13 November at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The young fighter even called Pacquiao and his coach “excuse makers.”
“To me, I think Pacquiao is scared, Freddie Roach is scared and they will try to find an excuse to cancel this fight. Margarito is going to kick Manny's a*s. I wonder if they will say that Manny hurt
his hand.”
Last month reports streamed that Manny hurt his foot in training camp.
It’s also no secret that training camp in the high-altitude terrain of Baguio City, Philippines, wasn’t exactly smooth sailing for Roach and co. On more than one occasion Roach found himself taking a
backseat to Manny’s outrageous schedule, which includes the likes of playing congressman of Sarangani province.
Roach couldn’t have liked it when Manny had to jump out the ring mid training session to take a call from the boys in the marble halls.
In fact, his experience moved him to conclude his top fighter will ultimately be lost to politics.
“I think that Manny is scared, I think they'll come up with some injury. Joshua Clottey can't even punch and he was hitting him easy,” Rios speculated. “I would not be surprised if they cancel the fight,”
“They want us to think Pacquiao isn't working hard so that Margarito will train lightly.
