Prospect Daniel Vogelbach’s rise catching attention – MLB News
While the Chicago Cubs continue to fill the 40-man roster, there are some players in the Minor Leagues who have been putting extraordinary efforts to catch the club’s attention. Daniel Vogelbach is one of them.
The player thinks this offseason provides him an opportunity to make strides to the Majors. From the kind of performance he has exhibited, it does not seem unlikely and not long before, he makes it the Cubs.
Ranked Number 14 among the Cubs’ top prospects, appearing in 24 games, he batted .324 in June with seven homers, 31 RBIs, 12 doubles and two triples. That took him to Class A Boise in July playing 37 games with a .322 batting average, 10 home-runs and 31 RBIs – keeping an impressive .608 slugging percentage.
With such consistency that he has shown, the player is just eager to demonstrate the batting power he possesses.
"This offseason will be big for me because I want to keep moving up and not be held back because of an injury that's stupid because it's something I can control," he said.
It is not baseball alone that Daniel Vogelbach excels in. He has been an all-rounder, playing a number of games, including basketball.
"I played point guard my whole life in basketball," Vogelbach said. "I've grown up playing a lot of different sports. I'm a lot more athletic than people think."
Interestingly, and much to the good luck of the player, Daniel Vogelbach has not gone unnoticed. The player is likely to make it to the Major League.
“He's pretty advanced with his approach and what he wants to do," said Jason McLeod, the Cubs' player development and scouting director. "A lot of [his work at instructional league] is defensive-based. He's working on his body - that's going to be an area for him consistently.”
At a time when the Cubs are in rebuilding process, they certainly need someone as consistent and prolific as Daniel Vogelbach who can be a source of strength for the Cubs offensively, bolstering them enough to make them one of the competitive teams in the National League.
