Prospect George Groves signs for weekly online diary
In a move being hailed for its innovation, Commonwealth super middleweight champion George Groves has signed on with
Boxing News to write a weekly online diary outlining his training and daily life.
Groves (10-0, 8 KOs) will use the website to illustrate his unique take on the sport of boxing, and highlight the insights and difficulties of being a champion.  He will write on a weekly basis starting Wednesday, 27 October.
The online diary comes in the wake of a massive increased online presence for a number of professional boxers.
Sites, like Twitter, have become popular for fighters such as Floyd Mayweather Jr., David Haye, and Andre Berto, all of whom tweet with news and personal updates for their fans.
But no boxer is more twitter-savvy than Mayweather, who frequently posts images of himself hanging out with friend-rapper 50 Cent and displaying wads of cash.
Groves, who is promoted by Hayemaker Promotions, is widely considered one of the top boxing prospects in England. A fight with James 'Chunky' DeGale, the current super middleweight WBA International champ, has been projected for some time, but terms have
yet to be arranged.
Frank Warren, who promotes DeGale, sent out a fighting offer to Groves last month, but was rejected because Groves’s team didn’t agree with the terms.
Former boxing star Joe Calzaghe has praised Groves, cementing his reputation. Calzaghe said Groves 'impressed' him, adding that he was "...very sharp, quick and seems to have every shot in the book [...] He's only going to get better, too, as he's surrounded
by other good fighters in the gym and success breeds success."
Groves headlines his first television fight card this Saturday on Sky Sports. He will take on Ghana’s James Obede Toney, who boasts an outing with current IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute. The event is already sold out.
"Yeah the show is sold out, thank you very much everyone for the support, very much appreciated.  The York Hall isn’t big enough; I told them that from the start.  It’s gonna be a tremendous atmosphere, I just can’t wait to get in there."
