Prospect Kolten Wong continues making strides – MLB News
St. Louis Cardinals' Number 1 second-base prospect Kolten Wong continues making strides, inching ever closer to make it to the Major League. Being the team’s Number one selection in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, being the Number four ranked prospect in the organisation lately, in Wong the Cardinals have a prolific hitter and excellent baseman.
After all, in Double-A in 2012, Wong had .287 batting average along with 52 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. All this is a harbinger of something good coming for the Cardinals in the years to come both defensively and offensively.
In the Arizona Fall League, Kolten Wong has lived to the expectations of the side he represents, batting .324 with 12 RBIs along with five stolen bases. For him, all this is actually a part of learning process.
"You play 140 games and they kind of figure you out," Wong said. "It's just a learning process for me and constantly being able to change."
All the same, as if he instinctively knows of the capability and potential he has in possession, Wong has his eyes set on representing the Cardinals in the Major League.
"I've always had confidence in myself that I knew I was a good player, and I always knew I could play with the best, so I was always trying to do better and whatever I can to show the Cardinals I am ready, hopefully, to get a chance to play in St. Louis someday," Wong said. "It's good to see they appreciate me like that."
It is not that he suddenly came as a thorough professional in the game, ready to be picked up by a team like the Cardinals. Wong has actually had years to become a player of the calibre that he is today.
He has played at the University of Hawaii for three years, exhibiting brilliance in both defence and offence. The player believes in making tireless efforts, asserting he wants to get better.
Showing no complacency whatsoever, the player intends to work harder so as to finally grab attention and get the rightful place in the Majors. The kind of performance he has shown in Double-A in 2012 is actually evidence of his brilliance.
He, however, knows the challenges involved in it. With continued improvement, nonetheless, the player can eventually break into stardom, getting a green signal to finally represent his team in Major League Baseball.
