Prospect Nick Castellanos looking to make his Major League debut – MLB News
According to mlive.com, Detroit Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski is convinced that the prospect Nick Castellanos is going to hit like crazy in the 2013 season. Castellanos is one of Tigers’ prospects from the Minor League. In addition to be a decent
outfielder, the right hander has the ability to drive in runs against even the best in the business.
However, what separates from his competitors is his ability to control his nerves under pressure. He is tough both physically and mentally. However, it will not be wrong to say that he is still a work in progress. There is no denying the fact the guy can
hit the ball hard but is he prepared to make his Major League Baseball debut for the Tigers.
Dombrowski always spoke highly of Castellanos. He ranks as the best the Tiger have in their farm system. When asked how Castellanos’ recent stint in the Arizona Fall League went, he said the guy is going to be the next baseball star.
"He's got a nice swing," Dombrowski said. "I think he ran out of gas this year. He had a lot of stuff going on, a lot of expectations attached to him for a youngster. A lot of people focused on him, but this guy can hit."
"This is just not our reports," he said. "We're talking about a bureau report that you can read that we get. Some people think the guy's going to be an impact bat almost immediately. Those were their words: 'impact bat.' … And quickly."
"He's not (Avisail) Garcia in the outfield right now by any means," Dombrowski said.
Although Castellanos managed to hit just .242 with one home-run and 11 RBI’s in 99 at-bats in 24 games for the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League, from time to time he showed he has the ability to succeed at the highest level.
The outfielder posted some impressive numbers for Single A Lakeland and Double A Erie in 2012 and it will be interesting to see if he can continue the good work to finally make his Major League Baseball debut.
