Prospective ready to go two in two at Tampa Bay Downs in the Sam F. Davis Stakes
Woodbine, Churchill Downs and then Tampa Bay Downs, cannot say his lone start at Churchill Downs was a reflection of Prospective’s ability to run down a crown and set the tracks ablaze, but the three-year-old colt has come a long way since then and he is back on winning ways, loving every way at Tampa Bay Downs, and there is no reason to break up the love affair.
Exiting a victory at Tampa Bay Downs, Prospective is ready to go at it again, this time in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes, at about 1 1/16 miles, on 4 February, 2012.
It is a wide open race that has reeled in eleven sophomore colts to fight it out and prepare themselves for the Triple Crown, which starts with the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on 5 May, 2011.
Trained by Mark E. Casse for owner, John C. Oxley, Prospective is coming off a win at Tampa Bay Downs in the Pasco Stakes, run over at dirt at about seven furlongs on 14 January, 2012, where he defeated Wildcat Creek in second, and Adirondack King in third, while covering the distance in 1 minute and 23.88 seconds.
Prospective had a bad start to the race, but went wide under L Contreras to post a half length victory over Wildcat Creek, which Mark Casse said was a lot better than it looked.
“I don’t think the Beyer Speed Figure of 77 is a true indication of how good a race he ran,” said Casse. “When you look at the trip and the amount of ground he lost and watch closely how he finished – he didn’t even have his ears pinned coming to the wire – I think he really won with ease.”
The Kentucky bred son of Malibu Moon, out of mare Spirited Away by Awesome Again, Prospective scored his third career win of his career, which include a maiden special weight win at second asking at Woodbine racecourse, and at the same track, he nabbed the Grey Stakes over the synthetic surface.
The Pasco was special because it came on the back of a humiliating defeat for Prospective, when he finished a non-threatening 13th in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
