Prospects of Al Ahly at the Club World Championship 2010
Fakhreldin Ibrahim is the head coach of Al Ahly, a Men’s Volleyball Club from Egypt. Like other participants of the Club World Championship in Doha, Qatar, Ibrahim’s team is excited about showcasing their skills in front of the bigger audience. The 2010
FIVB Men’s Club World Championship is supposed to hit town in a couple of days, which will really test the players’ abilities. The tournament starts on 15 December, and will continue for a week.
Al Ahly’s head coach is determined that his team will put up a strong performance and qualify for the final round of the tournament. The team has been placed in Pool A along with Qatari side Al Arabi Doha. Al Ahly is scheduled to take on Al Arabi in the
opening match of the tournament on 15 December. In the next match, they face stiff competition in the form of Iranian club Paykan. The Iranian team has a great record playing in different Asian tournaments. In the final group game Al Ahly play Polish side
Belchatow on 19 December.
Currently the team is staying in Turkey, and has started training for the Club World Championship. They have played friendly matches against some local volleyball clubs in Turkey. The practice has been very beneficial for the team as the players will get
a confidence boost ahead of the big event. Al Ahly coach Ibrahim is keen to come up with a good strategy, and for that he is trying to gain as much insight about his competitors.
He said, "We could not collect all the information about each of the teams in the first round, which would have helped us. I've watched the video of Paykan against PGE SkraBelchatow from last year, but the problem is that both recently hired a number of
players and we do not know them well."
Likewise, Al Ahly sporting director Raouf Abdel-Kader expressed his views. He said, "The team won all the domestic leagues, continental and regional tournaments this year, but we've emphasised to the players that they are required only to do their best.
The administration has provided everything for the team and they have had a few days to prepare mentally for the tournament."
