Ok so my grandfather who is 95 has developed prostate problems. I don't know if its cancer yet but i believe it is, anyways he was in the hospital for 4 days and in those 4 days all he did was sleep as he was never able to stay awake for longer than a few minutes nor did he eat because he was on IV. He also appeared very dissy and was in a lot of pain. They released him 2 days ago. This morning we noticed he did not wake up at all as his eyes were shut completly. He is still breathing but he isn't responding or waking up at all. The doctors previously told us there is little they can do at this point due to his age. All i want to know is by what I've said does this pretty much meen he's dying and its just a matter of hours or days or is there anything the we/doctors can do.

  1. all you can do at this stage of his life is to be with him and hold his hand. talk to him gently and thank him for the nice things in life he has done for you and the time he has spent with you. he may not be able to respond but he will still be able to hear you.

  2. Prostate cancer usually spreads elsewhere in the body, and it's usually those symptoms that send a guy to the doc. Any cancer that spreads is bad news, especially for the elderly.

But it could also just be benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). Men become more susceptible to both prostate cancer and BPH as they age. BPH can take a lot out of a guy, but it's not fatal. Meds can keep the symptoms at bay.

  3. Nothing can be done with the doctor.

Just pray to God to release him soon, instead of suffering the pain.

    Maintain him with fluid more.
