Prostitution in Thailand, Revolting ! ?

'Money doesn't bring the real happiness'. Do you know that proverb ?

Prostitutes in Thailand are uneducated girls, I believe they don't know what they're really doing on themselves. They TRY to look happier than everybody, but it's not real, nor deep, and even if they can feel happy, that's only a feeling and it won't last for long.

Why the Thai authorities let theirs sisters do it ?

Is it to invite tourists to enlarge the national income ?!

So, who do you think is the real prostitute ?

The one who doesn't know what they are doing (uneducated girls)

or the one who KNOWS PERFECTLY what they do (authorities) ?!

I know there's reason for everything, but I wonder if it exists good reason for it...

  1. Why not just try to get off your holy roller trip.  You think you know so much about this country.  It shows you haven't seen that much of the country as you preach.

  2. well, you do have to understand that it is possible that other people have different values than you do - - and - - most importantly, it does not make them bad people or even in their frame of reference doing things wrong - - there are many examples of this around the world -

this is a broad subject, but many of the girls have a kid or are older and they are not considered desirable for Thai men, so, they seek a foreigner and this is near the only place that a Thai lady from a small village can meet them, by working in the bar - - AND - you would be surprised how many of them meet and marry foreigners - - many many many many - - They do not necessarily define themselves by the job as you are doing - - they look at themselves as girls from a small village doing some higher paying work for a short period of time so they can support their parents and children and hopefully meet a decent guy - - and as I have said, I know many that have met very nice men -

  3. First of all, there isn't any more prostitution in Thailand than there is in most countries around the world. Because they're open about it -- as opposed to the street walkers, crack pipes, and pimps we have here in Los Angeles -- they have a reputation for it.

Second, and I'm not advocating this, but you have to realize that the Thais look at this subject differently than we in the west (especially Americans with our puritanical roots). Unmarried women are expected to remain virgins when they marry. If a girl has had s*x she's considered spoiled property (I know some still do, but not as much as you might think). For men on the other hand, it's acceptable for them to have s*x before marriage. This creates a problem, if the men are allowed, but the women aren't, who are the men suppose to have s*x with. Prostitution is considered an an acceptable answer to this problem. It also addresses another Thai problem. A girl from a very poor family may not be able to find a proper mate due to her disadvantaged background. Working as a prostitute gives her a chance to improve her situation and even help her family out. Again, this is very different, and probably offensive to our way of thinking but it's a Buddhist country with a very different way of life.

I'm not going to make an argument that there's nothing wrong with the profession. I know there are many bad things associated with it, however, I don't think making it illegal will solve anything. As it is now, the girls in places like Soi Cowboy are required to have physicals and be tested for HIV. If it's illegal there won't be any regulation at all.

Before we in the west preach to Thailand about their sins, we should take a look at ourselves. Ever rent a prono, or maybe look at p**n on the internet. We don't seem to have a problem with that. Why not? It's women and men getting paid to have s*x. Ever go to a strip club, or have a stripper show up at bachelor party? Is that really any less exploitation of women? (and don't tell me s*x doesn't go on there.)

I know that there are some extreme things that go on, like trafficking girls against their will. But guess what, that goes on here as well. I'm not saying we shouldn't be aware and try to stop it, I'm just saying we shouldn't point our finger at Thailand and act like we're so much better.

  4. I agree with twelve. You don't seem to understand my country very well.

I have known girl who became prostitutes and nobody forced them. They know what they are doing.

You say it's because they don't have education but you don't need education to know rather or not it's right to sell your body for s*x. It's about an easy way for them to make a lot of money.

Many of us Thai people don't think it's good but we are not ones to judge.

If you think it's wrong then just don't go to those places.
