i know that Sanger Rainsford is the story's protagonist but i need actual proof from the text that he is. Like actual quotes from the text. i've read it through and through again but i can't find anything concrete enough that i think that my honors teacher would approve.

could you help?

  1. Yes, typically a protagonist moves the plot of a fiction story, and is the focus of the plot (that is, the plot "happens" to him or her).

Find quotes, or rather simply text, that indicates an action or movement of plot indicating a major change that was initiated by the character Rainsford.  For instance, his very running from the men rather than allowing his being shot, and further succeeding in it, indicates he is a protagonist.

  2. It's obvious he used to hunt animals and now he hunts humans to satisfy his sadistic pleasure. He may not be a "Villain" but what he is doing cannot be justified to any degree

  3. holy c**p.

that was my assignment this weekend too.

just not the protagonist part because i got moved down to normal english. :/

ehh, i just look through my book.

    sorry, i can't find any!

    EDIT:

    oh wait!

i think i might have found one!

well, in my text book, its on page 22 at the bottom..

    it says "mirage," THOUGHT rainsford.

since it said "thought", doesn't that mean that like he's the main character and you can tell what he's thinking and stuff? not just what he's doing?

  4. Your proof could be that since the book is written from his point of view, that you get his thoughts and his opinions, that the story follows him and not someone else.
