Protean golfer Charl Schwartzel enjoys the feast at Augusta National
It feels great when survivors make their journey even in the toughest circumstances.
Similar is the situation the South African golfer Charl Schwartzel experienced when he was able to enjoy a buffet feast at the Augusta National Golf Course.
The 27-year old golfer, with the help of ingeniously planned and carefully executed birdies, was able to tee it off in the most effective manner.
Bearing in mind that Augusta is termed as one of the most dangerous places for golfers primarily because of the threat that it has posed in devastating the dreams of even top tier golfers.
However, in Schwartzel’s case the situation was different from the very beginning. Being the defending champion, it was important for him to execute his best and so he did.
With the help of his birdies in the final four holes, he was able to retain his title and, simultaneously, falsify the rumours regarding the grass of Augusta.
He said, “I just find sometimes that I don't enjoy these functions that are formal. You sit down, the food comes. I like it to be fun and relaxed, something that everyone will eat. If you bring in funny sort of foods, not everyone eats it. That's not what
you want”.
He further said that he wanted to add a barbeque feeling to his game, something that could serve as an ingredient of excitement in the event.
However, in the midst of all this exhilaration, he preferred to remain calm and tranquil.
Apart from the food talk, it is also important to mention that Charl will be making his debut at the PGA Tour with the World Golf Championships - Accenture Match Play getting underway this week.
At present, he is quite calm after securing victory at the George Pines but he is now preparing to gear himself for the upcoming encounters.
He added, “For some reason that whole week, especially those last few holes, except for the 18th tee, I was very, very calm ‑ calmer than I normally am”.
He further acknowledged that his calm temperament has been pivotal in contributing to the exceptional performance he has been able to deliver in the event.
He is also confident enough to perform the same way in his upcoming events.
