Switchblades have been typecast as a criminals weapon.  From my experience and understanding, switchblades are more 'illegal' than other knives because of it's reputation.  In Massachusetts you have to get a weapons permit for mace, knives, and other self-defense items.

If you're a knife collector, I think ProTech is certainly taking a 'stab' at the competition because I haven't seen a hoard of new switchblades.   I also never see switchblades on any of those Knife-Shop-At-Home programs on TV.    Again, pretty sure their reputation is responsible for the production decline, or the law-abiding citizen isn't sold on the product.

Fast knives, spring assisted knives, and other similar "cheat knives" will most definitely make people around you, and law enforcement more aware of you.  Happy Collecting!
