  1. It is when an insurer offers you the chance to protect any 'no-claims discount' you may have. i.e. if you make a claim, your no-claims bonus remains unaffected - if you had 5 years claim-free, you'd still have 5 years NCB if you claimed.

    I think you need 4+ years before you can protect your no-claims bonus.


  2. It usually means that the bonus (usually 60%) has a two life protection. One can usually make two claims within a preset period without the bonus being reduced.

  3. You pay extra to insure your no claims discount, so that if you have to make a claim, and it's your fault, your no claims discount stays intact. If it wasn't protected, your no claims discount would go down after an accident.
