Question:

Protecting My Business ...?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I have a product that I am thinking will be ready for release soon (its a web-based online product) and I want to know what measures I need to take to protect myself and my business from lawsuits. I honestly don't have a casual 1000$ to go off and buy a super professional contract or anything (no venture capital really ...) but I know I need some sort of contract to protect me from lawsuits.

Can anyone give me a push in the right direction as to how I should handle this particular issue?

Thanks!

  1. Hi There,

Good Post!  I love everything about business, escpecially the marketing and advertising parts.  These things make or break a business.  I've found many ways to advertise my business that might help you.  If you have a website, try SEO and PPC (pay per click from Google Adwords).

If you advertise your business offline, try handing out flyers, printing coupons, and yellowpage advertising).

The best method I've found yet is to buy business cards and hand them out everwhere.  I buy them from a place online that gives the cards for free and only charges for shipping and handling.  I hand these out to everyone I meet, and I leave them on cars where ever I go (I also got a free business card holder that looks really impressive)!

Take care and good luck with your business!

  2. What kind of web product is this that you are already expecting lawsuits?

First off, organize yourself as an LLC to protect your personal assets. In case somebody sues you, they sue your business and not you.

Second, have clear cut disclaimers, terms of use and privacy policy. And make sure that users agree to it. If this threat of lawsuit is really imminent, make all users who visit the site read your disclaimer first before getting to the site. Look at how YA operates for example.

Without really knowing what this site is all about, it's hard to make more concreate recommendations.
