I read today that the guideline daily amount of protein is 45g!

I well exceed that! why is there a GDA for protein?

    look at it this way..why is there a guidline to the amount of calories to consume, its so you dont get fat by over eating.....eating too much iron can cause Hemochromatosis in which iron builds up in the organs leading to potentially life threatening diseases

  3. Because people are not getting educated about nutrition and need guidelines set for them by the government. And even the government is not educating people about nutrition! Food for the body should not be based on protein, fat, and sugar content of food. It should at least not be the first thing about the food label! And I think there should be phytonutrient labeling on food, and antioxidant content along with the vitamin and mineral content. Also I think bio-availability for digestion and assimilation of the nutrients should also be on there to educate the masses.

  4. There are GDA's for everything. Exceeding that can be hard on your body, unless you are very active. Athletes require more protien than the average person.
