Question:

Protest the Dress Code?

I used to go this school, and keep in mind that most people their were hypocrites (it's in KY, so it's obvious).

I used to dress so crazy, I used to walk out of the house with my clothes totally not matching, and make-up very thick.

Apparently, since I didn't look like everybody wanted me to (like a robot,) they hated me and my friends. That's when they grew tired of the way I was.

The students were already calling me 'emo', 'scene', and 'goth', as if it weren't bad enough, the teachers and the secretaries, and even the fricking principal were starting to jump onto me over my style.

They started saying I couldn't wear gloves, because I could hide knives in them, and that my shorts had to be crdit card length above the knees.

So then I was mad, and twisted the rules around. I wore shorts with leggings under them, fingerless gloves, made out of mittens, everything to express myself and not violate their 'new dress code'.

So they started cracking down on me over that.

After fighting, and uniform threats, and constant ISS, I became homschooled.

They started to do the same to my friends (it had only been me at the time).

I'm getting tired of it. So I was thinking about showing up at their school one day, and protesting. Even if I have to do it alone. =]

But I'm not sure of the consequences, considering the fact that I am now homeschooled.

Could anyone help me out with that one problem?

  1. sure you could protest. Alot of people do!

just dont do anything that could be against the law like just dont be soo loud dont disrupt anything, dont curse or scream and everything will be fine. freedom of speech, do it.

  2. Ah, I'm all for uniforms. I wouldn't have to look at a single "Back to School!" buy blah-blah accessories within the newspaper.

As for the teachers and principal getting on your case...I'm sure they have better use of their time; it's just that quite a bit happens in high schools that is related to violence, and violence is perpetuated with weapons, and those are generally not seen due to a fashion statement.

  3. I know you don't want to hear this, but you're highly unlikely to win.  You will probably be escorted out and arrested or prohibited from those school grounds if you try.  You may see your protest as harmless, and I doubt you'll start a violent protest, but the administration already doesn't like you and they'll have no problem stretching the truth.

Sadly, I agree with no mini-skirts.  In school, you have to walk up flights of stairs, and it's really easy to see under a mini-skirt while doing so.  The leggings?  They shouldn't be allowed to say anything against that.  Unless they were very outside of uniform/school colours (IE: Lime green with pink polka-dots.)

You can hide knives in arm-warmers.  Try it with a steak knife.  It's easy.  I understand the precaution they're taking, and you should, too.  There has been a lot of controversy of uniform codes since major school violence came up again recently.  It's for your safety.  Although you may not carry a steak knife or a gun there, someone else possibly could.

Fingerless mittens would be okay personally, because they're too short to hide anything in.  However, if they're very outside of uniform/school colours, it's bad to call attention to it.

You're old enough to take legal action against.  It's not worth risking.

Want to express yourself?  Dye your hair.  Cut it insanely.  Use crazy make-up.  Paint your upper-lip blue and your lower lip red with lipstick.  Try henna and body paints and such.  Use an undershirt or a fishnet longsleeve.  Sew your own back pack, or even patch up your skirts.  Wear awkward shoes.  One boot and one Converse. :)  Socks?  Don't match them.  Piercings.  Duck Tape.  Shred your sleeves.  Paint your nails all different colours.  Shave your eyebrows, if you're willing to go that far.  Work out and get muscular. :P  I don't know.

Best part of doing all that is wearing the right length clothes and not covering up (or showing) the wrong parts of your body, and it pisses them off more because they can't legally do anything against you.
