With Canada Day being tommorow, I want to know. What are some of the things that make you proud to be a canadian citizen? What do you like about our country? What about people from other nationalities? What makes you proud to be a part of your country? All answers welcome.

  1. I'm 63 years old and I grew up surrounded by WWII vets and lots of European war immigrants who filled my head with stories of Canadian heroes and heroic acts. National pride has been in my veins since before I was born.

.I grew up in Quebec but have lived in 5 different provinces and travelled in all ten. I think anyone who travels in Canada and is not touched by the sheer size and beauty of this country has to be brain dead. The nicest people in the world are from Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, P.E.I. Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, B.C. and all the territories.

There have been so many great names and great events attached to this country. It is impossible to mention them all. A few though - Dr. Wilder Penfield, Drs Banting and Best, Terry Fox, Montreal Mayor Jean Drapeau, Ottawa Mayor Charlotte Whitton, Maurice Richard, Sir William Stephenson, Our War Vets, Our Peacekeepers, Our Soldiers overseas right now. Montreal's Expo '67, Calgary's 1988 Winter Olympics, The Ice Storm that brought everyone out to help each other, Toronto Blue Jays winning the World Series, The 1972 Canada/Russia Hockey Series.

I have travelled outside of Canada to some very beautiful and interesting places but it is always good to come back to Canada. I am sure there must be something I don't like about Canada but it can't be too important because I can't think what it is right now.

What do I think about other nationalities? Well I was brought up to judge people by their personalities, not their nationality or religion or colour or any of those things. And I am very glad I was because I have been lucky enough to meet some of the most fantastic people in my wandering the world. Some Americans get me down - The emphasis is on the word 'some' though and that is mostly since I started coming to YA. It seems to attract a large percentage of the  U.S.'s non thinkers. It becomes easy to forget there are some really great folks south of the border.

Well it's onward and upward. More good Canadian Olympics and more Canadian technology in space etc etc etc

  2. I'm always tickled when people apologise, after asking which state I live in.

Usually it's an American asking, and it's always funny to see them squirm when I tell them I'm Canadian.

Most European's recognise Canadian's as Canadians, but the Americans always forget there's anyone else on the planet.
