  1. Bob here is correct; the consensus in the scientific community is that global warming is real and is mostly caused by human activities.

The downside of that consensus is that it can't be irrevocably proven. The "warming trend" is fairly definite, although our historical records of the Earth's temperature are so miniscule as to be laughable. It's like a blind man putting his finger into the ocean and based on that experience, estimating the size of the ocean. Our knowledge of this subject is severely limited.

Harder still is to estimate what effect significantly reducing our carbon and methane emissions will have, if any.

The debate is more valid than Bob would like to think, but I think most reasonable people would prefer to err on the side of caution, rather than do nothing.

  2. haha... it has been another seven minutes and no one can prove with facts that it isn't happening either... how ironic!  What is that suppose to prove??

Hey, billybob... just a theory huh?  You mean, like theory of relativity?  Or like, theory of gravity?  Your point please...  (Why does everyone have to give such a stupid answer on these things?)

Fact 1:  Climate change is always occuring...

Fact 2:  Climate change for millions and millions of years, has occured naturally

    Does that answer your question?

    Cindy, good point.

However, that could depend in part whether or not we are at a 'tipping' point of the warm trend and whether or not a combination of events including whatever humans are doing can have any influence one way or another.

  3. There are way too many facts proving this for a Yahoo answer.  The proof is in the links below.

This is science and what counts is the data.

"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”

Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)

    Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut

Here are two summaries of the mountain of peer reviewed data that convinced Admiral Truly and the vast majority of the scientific community, short and long.

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

EVERY major scientific organization has issued an official statement that this is real, and mostly caused by us.  The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc.

  4. Hahaha it's been15 minutes and you still have NO ANSWERS! I find that funny. Guess no one can do it!

  5. Their is no hard data manmade global warming is just a theory.

  6. It can't be proven.  Anyone who thinks they can, go to junkscience.com and try.  They've been running a contest for a while trying to find someone that can 'prove' it.

The truth is, that in science you prove something by disproving all the other possibilities.  There are many other valid possibilities to argue against global warming.  As much as people dislike it, global warming is still just a theory.  It can not be proven, it can be argued, but it can not be proven.

  7. Top 11 Warmest Years On Record Have All Been In Last 13 Years

    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/200...

ScienceDaily (Dec. 13, 2007) — The decade of 1998-2007 is the warmest on record, according to data sources obtained by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The global mean surface temperature for 2007 is currently estimated at 0.41°C/0.74°F above the 1961-1990 annual average of 14.00°C/57.20°F...

...Since the start of the 20th century, the global average surface temperature has risen by 0.74°C. But this rise has not been continuous. The linear warming trend over the last 50 years (0.13°C per decade) is nearly twice that for the last 100 years...

...2007 global temperatures have been averaged separately for both hemispheres. Surface temperatures for the northern hemisphere are likely to be the second warmest on record, at 0.63°C above the 30-year mean (1961-90) of 14.6°C/58.3°F. The southern hemisphere temperature is 0.20°C higher than the 30-year average of 13.4°C/56.1°F, making it the ninth warmest in the instrumental record since 1850.

January 2007 was the warmest January in the global average temperature record at 12.7°C/54.9°F, compared to the 1961-1990 January long-term average of 12.1°C/53.8°F...

Global 10 Warmest Years Mean Global temperature (°C) (anomaly with respect to 1961-1990)

       1. 1998 0.52

       2. 2005 0.48

       3. 2003 0.46

  8. I've read in couple of different places that the Earth goes through a cool down and warm up stage every few thousand years, and that there is nothing that can be done about it. The Earth is in it's warm up stage, and for us to walk around pretending like we can stop it is a waste of time...at least that's what I've read.

  9. I am 77 and the climate is much better than it was when I was younger.
