Proving I can own a pet?

Question

I REALLY want a cat. The only problem is, my dad hates all animals. Some childhood thing. My brother moved out and bought a cat and them moved back in, so my dad was around the cat alot. He warmed up to it, and now he really likes the cat. but my brother moved out and now he says he likes the cat as long as it doesn't live here. My mom says my dad just doesn't like the smell. How can I talk him into it?

I really want a cat too! I had one, but then I couldn't take care o it at night because it meowed a lot and annoyed me. But now I have 2 bunnies, and this is how I got a cat and bunny. I had a responsibility week. I had to take care of everything and if I did, I got a pet! If it's the smell, when you get your cat a litter box, buy odor control too!

You don't say how old you are. Maybe he thinks you are too young to take care of an animal. Is it cats he doesn't like, or is it the extra expense of cat food, and vet bills? If it isn't any of these, then Is there a way to compromise with him? What if you kept your cat in another area of the house? It does sound like once the cat is there, he'll warm up to it. Do lots of research about cats and find a breed thats has minimun shedding and smell. DON'T BUG HIM ABOUT IT THOUGH! Do a mini presentation once you've done your research.

get rid of the smell. what kind of smell? is it peeing? get it fixed. and clean the areas with a specialty product made for urine. or call a professional. litter box smell? gradually move it closer to the outside of the house or by a window. use a good litter for odor, some people like arm and hammer, i like fresh step. use a litter deodorizer, its a baking soda mix.

maybe you can give him a bath give him good attention like i have two cats and they like to hunt maybe you can get a home cat that will stay in sometimes out and teach it where to do its stuff and give him/her a bath once a week
