Proxy anonymity?

hello,

I've been to proxy.org and Im trying to work out which proxy server I should use to protect my IP address?

As many sites could be shady and corrupted can some suggest some sites with a good repuation.

If you need to protect yourself then why are you using a free proxy that you find on Google or whatever?  Doesn't it seem kind of odd that someone is taking the time and effort to put together a proxy server that will not just give you access to sites but hide and protect your IP without charging?

Think about it...most of those sites are shady or corrupted. The ones that aren't are mainly used to circumvent blocks but not to protect you from identity theft and tracking.  A good proxy won't break the bank either, only a few bucks a month.
