Question:

Proxy software for serving web pages remotely?

I'm after a piece of software that will run on a spare home PC and allow me to navigate to it by way of entering my static IP address on a remote PC's web browser. It would serve an html page to the remote PC where I can put an http address in for browsing, thus allowing me to surf freely without restriction remotely. Everything (text, data, images) would have to pass through the home PC before reaching the remote one.

Is this possible, and what do I need?

  3. Yes, it is possible. You need to setup a web server first!

Linux with PHP (LAMP) is all that you need.

Then add proxy software to it!

    like mentioned here.

All that being said, you need to see if your ISP for home will allow you to run a web server!  Many prohibit you doing that so check first, don't want to see your ISP pull your connection!

If you want to try this at school, don't be surprised when the school blocks your home IP period!  Proxies are easy to spot and do have many systems that auto block them these days!
