I gave 7 month old my son prune juice for constipation. Approximately how long does it take for a BM to happen after the juice?

  1. Another thing to try if that doesn't work is to use dark Karo syrup in their bottle. This is what my doctors have always recommended. It is very gentle on their little tummies and works (usually) within the day.

  2. In my experiences, it takes an hour at the very least. If my kids are miserable, I give them a baby e***a. They don't like it much but it isn't painful and it works right away.

  3. it can take  awhile. I think what I have done is feed an ounce or two of juice, wait 8 hours and repeat until you get a BM. otherwise you could end up with a bad case of the squirts to deal with.

My youngest son tends towards constipation too. I limited the amount of baby foods containing apple or banana and increased the amount of pears. I also fed him a 4oz jar of prunes like 2x a week. white grape juice or pear juice is a better alternative than apple juice for those who tend towards constipation.

  4. Normally it takes about an hour or so. If he does not receive one with in six than I would either give him more, or get him to a doctor.

  5. Talk to you pediatrician, they might let you give the baby a very small amount of mineral oil in your babys formula and trust me it will make him go.  Prune juice works extremely slow, I didn't use prunes until my daughter was at least 2 and even then I stewed the prunes in some orange juice afterward puree, it made her go very well, she is 15 and I still use the prunes stewed in orange juice.  DON'T GIVE THIS TO THE BABY, talk to your doctor before giving your baby anything, please?

  6. I also have a breastfed son who struggles with constipation, doesn't take a bottle, and is still learning on the sippy cup.  You might try these other ways to get the fiber in, if he's eating spoon solids:

Gerber stage 1 prune puree - I give half of a container in addition to other solids and I'd say it works in about 24 hours or less.

Pruney oats - Make baby oatmeal (or barley) with prune juice instead of breastmilk/water. I like to add a little cinnamon too. This stuff is delicious!  I'll have to keep it in mind in case I ever need a fiber boost. Also works in maybe 24 hours. Don't use rice cereal, though, since it is constipating.

Also good: peaches, pears, plums, apricots.  Not sure how into solids you and your son are but of all of these have worked for us. Also, try a tummy massage and a soak in a warm tub.

    Good luck!
