Przemyslaw Wacha lifts Men’s Singles title at the 2011 Yonex Czech International – Badminton news
Poland’s top shuttler, Przemyslaw Wacha lived up to expectations as he captured the Men’s Singles title at the 2011 Yonex Czech International, in Czech Republic, on Sunday, October 2.
Wacha defeated Czech Republic’s Petr Koukal in the final showdown, after a rubber-set contest which took 41 minutes of superb badminton. Despite having the advantage of a home crowd, Koukal failed to make his mark over the visitor and bowed down in two sets.
World Number 29 ranked shuttler, Wacha played flawless badminton against the giant killer, Koukal, who defeated the second seed, Brice Leverdez of France in the second round and third seed, Jen Hao Hsu of Chinese Taipei in the semi-final of the championship.
However, Koukal failed to continue his heroic run against Wacha, who was playing a class above his local opponent. Wacha played planned badminton and remained patient throughout the match which earned him the desired result in the title match.
The wonderful exchanges of fast rallies in the starting points, injected thrill in the match as both shuttlers were playing at their maximum speed. The huge crowd was supporting their local hero who was playing terrific badminton against the higher ranked
Polish shuttler. Until the break, Wacha could manage only a two-point lead of 11-9.
After the one-minute interval, the contest progressed closely as both shuttlers kept the pace at the highest level. However, at the concluding phase, Wacha employed some amazing strokes and won the set by a tight difference of 21-19 in 23 minutes.
In the second game, Koukal tried to take a lead in the starting points but his challenger was in a different mood this time. Wacha played his usual game without taking any pressure of being top seed in the draw. He controlled the rallies and pushed his rival
everywhere in the court.
Koukal remained struggling to return the bird as his higher ranked opponent was playing on a different level. Wacha finished-off the second game in style with a 21-16 score on the board, in 18 minutes. The final result of this title match was 21-19 and 21-16.
