Przemyslaw Wacha tames Sattawat Pongnairat in first round of Austrian International Challenge
Poland’s Przemyslaw Wacha proved his supremacy in the arena as he defeated Sattawat Pongnairat of USA in Men’s Singles first round of Austrian International Challenge 2012, on Thursday, February 23, in Austria.
Wacha, who is currently World Number 37 in Men’s Singles category, played a controlled game against the lower ranked Pongnairat and won the match in straight sets by taking just 30 minutes in the court.
The third seeded Wacha displayed his impressive skills at the crucial stages in both games and managed to win the battle with a close margin.
Wacha started the first set in an interesting manner as he took a small lead in the opening points and maintained this small gap throughout the opening half.
On the other hand, Pongnairat tried to level the score but failed to bridge the gap in the first half of opening set and remained trailing behind his rival at 5-11.
After the break, the higher ranked Wacha played to his maximum potential and remained in complete control. He did not face any considerable resistance from his rival in the whole set.
Pongnairat played well but not enough to level the score even for a single time in the whole set. Wacha took the first game with a narrow 21-19 score on the board.
In the second game, Pongnairat entered into the court with a different approach as he played elevated badminton and remained in complete control. He managed to put pressure on his rival and remained ahead on the score board.
On the other hand, Wacha failed to continue his dominating performance in the opening half and remained behind his un-seeded opponent at 7-11.
However, the Polish shuttler lifted up his level in the concluding half of second game and played aggressive badminton. He did not spare any chance for his opponent to dominate the pace of rallies anymore.
Wacha continued his power play and levelled the score by reaching at 16-16. He manipulated all loopholes of his rival and remained successful in taking the second game with a 21-18 score on the board.
The overall score of this Men’s Singles first-round clash was 21-19 and 21-18.
