  1. ok for the ps3 if you got a HD-TV you NEED a HDMI cable

if you are watching a normal dvd NOT blu-ray it wont look that good because you tv is 1920x1080 pixels and the dvd is 640x480 so the picture needs to be stretched so it wont look that good

hear is a link to some cheep HDMI cables

  2. you need either an hdmi cable or component cables. the component cable has 3 video hookups, red, green, and blue. Once you have one of these connected you can go to the settings menu on your ps3 and go to display settings, There you can change the video output to hi def. it makes a huge difference. I didn't hook mine up to my hd tv for two months because I thought it was to small, but now I can see everything so much better.

  3. You need both the AV cables (red, white and yellow) and the HDMI cable. If you don't have an HDMI cable, the graphics look the same as you would see on a standard TV, like you said. The sound quality too sounds dull without a HDMI cable. Basically the HDMI cable brings out both better sound and graphics quality on your TV to your PS3. It's also the same for Blu-ray.

Any HDMI you buy will work. You're best to buy them at any game shop, because they're the cheapest there.
