I don't have a HDTV yet... But I was wondering if i can simply use the the phono to support the picture, and the sound will relayed through the dvd home cinema set through optical cable. I tried and no sound came through.

here is the the dvd home cinema system i have:

I tried the optical cable in the ps3 into the dvd reciever's optical input, which i hoped would transfer the audio through the reciever's audio out.

I also changed the settings on the ps3 to optical, but there was no sound available.

any suggestions? or can this be done at all? Should i just wait until i get a hdtv?

  1. it doesnt matter what display you have. the sound is entirely separate (except for hdmi). you probably checked too many boxes in the digital out setting on the ps3( only check the first 3 boxes, not the last four). the receiver needs to be on optical input  and it will work. make sure 96khz and 144 are turned OFF.
