i hooked up the wii and get a fuzzy pic, no sound. hooked up the ps3 - get great video, but no sound.

these were straight to the tv hookups using the av1 and av2. what am i doing wrong or missing?

  1. I really dont understand your question, how you hook up the wii and ps3 to your direcTV ?

anyway you should connect your devices the same way you used to connected to the switch box but this time the switch box is integrated in the tv. the way i see it you have 4 sources

    1. direcTV/tivo  (the same box or apart?)

    2. dvd

    3.wii

    4.PS3

you need 4 input in the back of the tv like av1, av2, ect.., component 1, component 2, ect.. or s-video, and/or HDMI depend on the tv model.

connect the dvd and the PS3 with component (green, blue, red thats video white and red audio)

you could also connect the ps3 by HDMI if the tv have one.

connect the wii with a/v (yellow video, red and white audio)

the direcTV with s-video or component if have one.

the order in resolution by quality from best to worst is

    HDMI (http://www.msp430.ubi.pt/blog/wp-content...

    Component (red,green,blue)

    S-Video (http://www.lyberty.com/encyc/articles/sv...

    Composite (yellow)

    RF coaxial (antenna like)

  2. To simplify what HT guru said basically:

Your PS3 should be either hooked up to your TV with HDMI or Component (Red, Green, Blue) cables for best resolution. If you want the audio to come out of the TV, then plug the PS3 audio cables next to the component ones. If you use HDMI, forget the audio cable, its built into the HDMI. If you want to get surround sound out of the Sony audio system, the PS3 should be connected with an optical cable with TosLink connectors to the sony audio (Make sure your system has these plugs first).

As for the Wii, your probably plugging it into an output instead of an input or your mixing up the Yellow/White/Red. Definately go back there with a flashlight so you can see what your doing. And also, don't force any plugs that don't want to go in!

  3. if you hooked up your other components to the analog TV it should still be straight forward, use a flash light back there and make sure your putting the composite cables to the correct input jacks make sure they all stay within the same input. you should be fine just look it over simple mistake. worst case if it still doesn't work plug it back in to the analog tv and see if it still works.  good luck..
