Ps3 faulty power supply (help please) need many suggestions ?

I have recently obtained a 40gb ps3 for $125 however it has a few problems with it lol. Basically I can't get the unit to boot with the blu ray drive plugged in, and it is iffy about having the hdd plugged in. Trying to reboot the unit results in it powering on for a second, then goes to a yellow light, then goes to flashing red light. The only way to restart the ps3 is by leaving it sit (seems to have greater chance of success if its unplugged from the wall). If i try to power it on with the bluray drive and the hdd installed it will just power on for a second, go to yellow light, then to a flashing red light. This makes me think that the power supply is faulty and cannot supply enough power to the whole unit, and can only run the unit for a few minutes before it 'growns out'. will a new power supply fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i,m getting one and i need to know, i don't wanna throw it out if i don't have to but if its a clunker than "its a clinker" A Christmas story= lmao its got to go hopefully its the power supply also wanted to add that the power supply just clicks when turned on

  1. It can be another hardware issue. BD-drive itself isn't using a lot of power (when idle). It can be another hardware issue, try taking it to Sony service.

  2. i don't understand what youre getting at?

From the way your talking it sounds like youve actually taken the Ps3 apart as you mention having the HDD plugged in or the Blu-Ray plugged in , but them not working if plugged in at same time.

are you sure you bought a PS3? n not jsut a random pieces of c**p?

Yellow light is the Ps3 version of RROD, but apart from that what you are describing is not a PS3.

if you mean your have a UPS or whatever theat wont work if you have a PS3, Blu-Ray player and Media enclusure/DVR plugged into it, then that might make slightly more sense except a PS3 can do all that anyway, so unplug other two n jsut use the PS3.

Edit - okay well if youve replaced the Blu-Ray drive are you sure thats not to fualt, the power supply on a PS3 is pretty tough, it draws about same power as a fridge, so im pretty sure it should be able to run all that, which in essence the HDD n Blu ray drive are jsut motors with a magnet/led, its the Cell n fans that would take up the most power.

persoanlly id ring up Sony support and have them sort this out.
