  1. i upgraded mine to an internal 160GB 2.5inch, 5400rpm SATA from Pine, it was about $120 Canadian and after formatting to the Ps3 it is 149GB. I recommend an internal HDD and not an external one unless u also want to store files from your PC on it as well.

  2. In addition to the great Cenobia's answer I'll add, that best HDD brands are Western Digital or Seagate.

  3. you will need a 2.5 inch SATA.easy to upgrade an get a drive that you can plug into the USB so you can backup and restore the game DATA but if u just got it and havent done anything on it you dont need a outside HDD

  4. You need a 2.5 inch 5400rpm SATA laptop hard drive. If you wanted an external HDD then it doesn't really matter as long as it has USB 2.0. External drives have to be formatted a special way to work with the PS3 though.

Solid state HDDs will not give a noticeable boost in performance in the PS3, and are definitley not worth the cost. Get him around a 200gb HDD and he'll never have to worry about running out of space.

A good site for hard drives is http://www.newegg.com . You may want to get it at a local store though, in case it doesn't fit (most fit fine) so you can return it easier. I'd do a little research to see if anyone else has used the hard drive you choose in the PS3 (or just get one someone else hsa already tried).

  5. When I changed my HDD of my PS3 I bought a 2.5 SATA Internal 5400rpm 250gb Western Digital. Haven't had a problem and it's been about a little after the PS3 launch. I bought my HDD from Ebay for 60 dollars but here's the website for it.
