I just recently bought an hdmi cable for HD because it upscales the dvds, i used to have component cable and 1080p looked fine on my tv. But with HDMI and 1080p I get white little specs flashing scattered, and the quality on the ps3 menu is weird, why does 1080p with hdmi look worse compared to it on 1080p component cable? Also with HDMI with 1080i it looks fine. any help? do I need to change a setting?

  1. When you set your devices at 1080p with the component cables, you are actually only seeing 1080i images, because component cables cannot output in 1080p; even though your device says it's outputting in 1080p, it's really only 1080i. When you used the HDMI cable with the PS3, and outputted in 1080p, and you saw all those freckles and things, that means your TV could not support 1080p output, only 1080i output. That's why it looks fine in 1080i.
