  1. This is from my personal perspective. It's from a blog I had written. I know this is kinda long, but it should completely answer your question and hopefully give you a new perspective on society:

"...Morals are what we consider right and wrong. Every decision we make and the way we perceive things is based on our morality. The morals of a person stay the same throughout one's life, changing only when one discovers a greater truth. A lot of times that greater truth comes from someone we feel is wise or someone we look up to. But where do our original morals come from?

"It seems like ever since one can remember, he or she has just known what's right and what's wrong. But our basis has to originate from somewhere, so, from where? Acutally, the question is who? Our mother, father, relatives, teachers, and friends; anyone we looked up to when we were young. We, most of all, looked up to either or both of our parents. They've been here for as long as we can remember; they feed us, care for us, and help us. If we ever have a question, they always have an answer. It seems like they know everything, so whatever they tell us must be true.

"'If you tell people something enough, eventually they'll believe it.'

"They lay the foundation of our morals. Usually, they pass down their morals; the morals they feel are best. But what if they pass down the wrong ones? A mother who wears what's in style and spends great amounts of money on her wardrobe obviously feels that looks are important. She would naturally teacher her son or daughter that people are going to judge them based upon how they look. But why? Why do people judge the outside of a person rather than one's inner self?

"Let's take a look back. During the medieval times, royalty and nobility would wear indigo-colored articles of clothing because the dye was rare, expensive, and showed a distinction between wealthy and the commoners; commoners were not allowed to wear indigo. Indigo represented power, wealth, and respect. The commoners lusted after the royalty and nobility because they had wealth and power beyond belief. They wanted so badly to just spend one day as those of high status did. Who can blame them; power and wealth meant freedom of oppression and a gain of respect from the people around them.

"Respect is something that has been sought after since the most ancient of times. If someone were to gain god-like status, everyone would worship them and their name would be immortalized forever on Earth. Everyone would want to be just like them and follow their footsteps in hope of acheiving the same goal. The ancient Egyptian kings and Roman kings were proof of this very goal.

"But this pursuit of repsect and status is, by far, not limited to just ancient civilizations. There are still people of wealth and status, fame and fortune in our era. They are known as actors and actresses, the "nobility" of our time. They are known internationally in many cases and have money and respect beyond belief. People look up to them wanting to be as wealthy and famous as they. So, what do people do? They watch every step and move their idol's make and follow as closely as they can. Many people worship and idolize them; they often talk, act, and dress like them. They try to be something they're not. It's called being "superficial"...."

That's about half of the entire blog. The rest of the blog goes on to cover racism and other things as well. If you would like to read more, feel free to check it out.
