  1. Hi, I'd disagree with Nadia-there are plently of mental health hospitals still in England and Wales, there are just less long stay wards because now wherever possible clients are treated in their own home. The types of wards mental health hospitals have include acute, older people's, childrens, secure and forensic.

Try ringing or emailing your nearest mental health trust and see if they accept volunteers. If they dont take people on a voluntary basis you could consider becoming a "bank support worker". This would give you flexibility and you could work as little hours as you wish.  It would give you a taste of the job and you'd get paid for it!

If you want volunteer work in mental health you're not restricted to hospital settings. You could try befriending or volunteering with a charity like Mind or Rethink, which would give you valuable experience in interacting with the client group.  They are much more likely to welcome volunteers than the NHS, who might see having to look after a volunteer as a pain, especially on a hectic ward.

Good luck and hope you enjoy it!

  2. You want to be part of a system that destroys lives and rapes people's minds and bodies with toxic chemicals and rips their human rights away?

    You are sick.

You want to make sure you understand that nothing goes in mental hospitals but blanket arbitrary tranquilization and sedation of people undergoing distress.

The clear social causes for their distress are ignored and they are fed a bunch of lies that they have diseased brains, yet no test or evidence is provided for this assertion.

Crimes against humanity occur in every single mental prison, oh sorry 'hospital' in the world. Crimes and abuse that people never recover from.

Wanting to work where this is happening to people and have blood on your own hands is sick.

  3. Yes   Volunteers are always welcome. You will have to have a CRB check (this is a police check) as with any health centre involvement. You would be unlikely to find 'psychiatric hospitals' as such nowadays, there is usually a psychiatric wing in an acute hospital.

  4. the state of the NHS they would love to have volunteers i`m sure
