Does a GP Doctor & a Psychologist go through the same medical training in Med-School?

  1. A psychiatrist will have to complete the same basic science and core rotation in med school as a GP. 4th yr of med school there is usually space for electives that each student will take on differently. Psychologists don't go to med school (not to be psychologists, anyway), they get BS, masters or Phds. Psychiatrists, however, are MDs or DOs.


  2. No.  A psychologist does not go to medical school at all.  They study psychology, which is a completely different program.   A psychiatrist, however, goes to medical school, and then gets some extra training above and beyond.
