The overall femininity of a woman's appearance can distract some people's (men's) perception of how a manager is suppose to be intelligent oppose to being sensual or more emotional then logical.

Unfortanly, that is the way most of this male dominant society views women.

EXAMPLE: when you look at a hot woman do say to yourself "d**n she looks so intelligent" and when you look at a less attractive woman do you have any thoughts of her at all...at first? And when you do, it could be about how smart she may be or how good of a friend she may be (or otherwise) regardless, it is only evident that less attractive women may come off as more intelligent managers!

All people judge on first appearance (male or female) but when you get to know someone then all of those shallow thoughts go out the window.

The female managers I've had have looked (and been) as intelligent as the male managers I've had.  (On average - I've had a lot of managers - Some have seemed a lot more intelligent than others, but it does not break down by s*x.)

I find that female managers actually look MORE intelligent than their male counterparts.  Something about a woman in a business suit...d**n!

Male colleagues might think a female manager is less intelligent if she dresses in a way which is 'too feminine', eg wearing soft floral fabrics when everyone else is in a suit. If she dresses provocatively she might seem less intelligent. Also, if she acts 'girly' and like a stereotypical woman, then male employees might respect her less. It's sexist but generally true.

I disagree its not whether a female manager looks more intelligent or not its all to do with whether someone comes accross as intelligent when you speak to them, looks are just superficial. However I guess if the manager (female) was dressed inopropriately for their job role then people may jump to conclusions. You can't judge solely by appearences.
