I am very intrested in Psych, im taking a AP class, im a senior in highschool, and i love it. I dont want to be in college a long(just to get my masters) a few things about me are

- i adore children especially babies, but i DO NOT want to be a teacher or work in a school at all

- my first goal was to work at a place like planned parent hood so i can educate teens about about s*x and pregnancy(including teen mothers)

- I would love to work with rape victims also

so can somebody tell where i would begin, or what i could do with a major in that area with getting a PHD....

This is what i have my heart set on!

  1. Begin volunteering in the organization s you are interested in - will help you get experience. Enroll in college and major in social work, psychology, counseling or anything similar. Graduate school is next, at this point you must decide which license you are to pursue and make sure that the state licensing entity accepts that school (vice versa is more like it, enroll in the school which degree is approved), regionally or APA accredited degrees usually do the trick.

  2. Lots of info at apa.org  There is info on careers, schools, salaries, and topics.  Read, you have lots of time before you have to decide.  (college psych professor)

  3. Are you going to major in Psychology? for your bachelors?

if not there are classes involved with the learning on children, conuseling classes, education courses etc.

Go to the bookstore and look at Career in Psychology by Tara Kuther.

It goes over soooo many psychology options and gives you an idea on what you can do with a bachelor's and a masters. sometimes it delves into doctorate stuff.

I found it reallly helpful and there's a checklist after every chapter.

Go to planned parenthood and see if you can volunteer or work there just to try it out and see if you like it! For children, try the daycare.

I'm in my last year as a psychology major at the university and that book has helped me with my options. there's a lot by the way. i highly suggest the book haha. also get some experience so you have an idea on what you like and what your interests are.
