Psychology as a career?

What are some different types of practices in psychology? What is the estimated yearly income for a psychologist? Do most psychologist's work for them selves or for a practice? What type of person would you recommend for this kind of career? Is it a fun career?

  1. I'm becoming a psychologist right now, but depending on your region it pays differently. Here in Alberta, it ranges from 70grand to 120grand, depending on what you do, and who you work for. By working for a non-profit org, you get paid less, and working for a government org, you get more.  

    To become a psychologist, you need a degree in psychology, or another degree and meet the specific prerequisites such as certain psychology courses.  After you have this, you apply for a psychology masters program, and finish it. After you are done that, you have to do a PHD program (so you get to be called "Dr.")

    in total, the time takes a while, 4 yrs for the first degree, 2-3 for the masters, and 2-3 for the PHD program.

    It may be worth all the education if your enjoy doing psychology.
