I stayed at the Kinlay House Hostel, which was pretty central and a stones throw from the heart of town, and you can use the hotel gym next door for a £5. But there was no bar in the hostel although there was abar crawl starting there most nights so maybe that might suit you......have fun

try the bru on maccurtain street. it's both a pub and a youth hostel. sometimes they have gigs and usually the music's pretty good.

In the city centre there is very little pub accommodation, however there are plenty of backpacker facilities.One of the best is across the road from the university. cheap and clean. only minutes from the hub.
