Public School In The USA, BAD?

I am a student, but please to not think I'm some school hater because of that. I have reasons witch ill explain.

Is it me or are you better off getting home schooled in the US instead of going public? I mean teachers assign (I know people say this all the time but im being serious) way too much homework, I mean its like they dont believe we have a life after school, we have no job, no family matters, no relationships we have to keep up (not just romantic ones either).

Also I really hate is the abuse some students do to the school. I mean graffiti is everywhere in my school, fights all the time, yet the bad kids cant get expeled, because of the crappy government "No Child Gets Left Behind Act".

I mean also its got a negative affect on a kids psych. I myself have thought of killing myself over stress, even running away from home.

I actually found out school was created by the Prussians as a way of propaganda.

Anyone else feel my pain or agree with me?

  1. No, you are simply suffering from the Peter Pan complex (unwilling to grow up). You were probably spoiled as a child, and don't want to face the real world.

The Prussians? Are you sure it wasn't little green men from Mars?

  2. Try wanting to kill yourself over the fact of nothing in your life....

You may have stress, but I have the stress over the fact I have nothing to stress over....

    If that makes any sense....

Edit: I'm not actually thinking about killing myself people. I just use that to show the way I feel.

  3. I totally agree, i think USA public schools are so bad, i wish i could burn most of them. Only because of so much abuse and hate that is put towards me everyday in school, and how mad i was at all my schools, i just hate school!!!... It should be a choice weather to go to school or not.I like my teachers have no problem i can deal with the homework, but the kids, i want to stab them until they die.

i think Private schools are better, cause the students arent bad, but the teachers i hate.

  4. Dude, you're spot-on.

The current system was imported from the Prussians. You know what the Prussians did with this system? They trained soldiers who would walk off cliffs if ordered to. They wanted to make a strict caste society in which a few people would be trained to run the lives of the unwashed masses.

You don't get someone to march off a cliff by being nice to him. The system is designed to degrade you, get rid of your self-respect and humanity, and make you dependent on the system for the rest of your life.

It's not supposed to help you or do any of the c**p it says. Just look at the roots of the system.

You are most certainly better off being homeschooled. That's the way it's been done for most of human history.

The schools that existed for most of civilization were nothing like what we're used to. They weren't compulsory and were intended to teach people with scholarly minds how to make the most of their potential. People who didn't want to bury themselves in books got respectable jobs as locksmiths, printers, shopkeepers, and so on. Part of the problem with our system is our inability to accept the fact that not everyone is college material, and that's fine. Being more academic than someone doesn't mean you're better or necessarily smarter.

If you can't get out of school, don't let school get in to you. Don't let them get in to your mind and suck out your soul. The only way to do that is to read. Read constantly. Read John Taylor Gatto. Learn Austrian economics and you'll understand how the world works. Dig in to your religion and really study it.

Build up an intellectual fortress and don't let the b******s in.

  5. I feel your pain!

There is a lot to worry about in most public schools and you have done a good job of listing a lot of them.

Since you posted this in the "homeschooling" section, I am guessing that you might be considering that as an option.  If that is the case, you may be interested to know a little about it.

We use K12, which we chose for its rich and rigorous curriculum.  There is a lot of the schooling done online, particularly for high school, but not everything is done online.

You can find general information here:

    http://www.k12.com/

And specific high school information here:

    http://www.k12.com/highschool/

Depending on where you live, you may even be able to homeschooling using K12 for free. Many states offer the curriculum through a "virtual" public school, where state funding pays for the materials and curriculum.

Schooling at home isn't taking the "easy" way out, though.  Be prepared to work hard and take charge of your schooling.  It is very rewarding to do though, because you will accomplish your goals on your own terms, which is very satisfying.

    Good luck.

  6. It does depend somewhat on which public school you attend, and whether your family is ready to take on homeschooling you.  Often homeschooling is the better choice.

  7. If you have actually considered killing yourself, please seek help from a parent, a counselor or your family doctor.

  8. I absolutely love my high school, but thats because we have really awesome teachers, rarely any fights, and our school is in great condition. I think that my school is just an exception though, and that most other schools are not very good environments. Public schools are good because you can socialize with other kids, but we already spend 6 hours at school, why do we need another hour of homework?

I definitely think that if you can be homeschooled and still get to hang out with other kids often, then that situation is much better than going to a public school.

  9. The schools could and should be much better. The homework situation is ridiculous. I have found homeschooling to be a superior educational choice for our family.

RK: Our modern schools system is based on the Prussian system. You know Prussia was a real place, right? Perhaps you should look up the Peter Pan complex before you diagnose someone with it. There is nothing imature about not wanting to be forced to spend everyday in a violent, ugly place. It is not immature to want a life outside of school anymore than it is for an adult to want a life outside of work. This kid is aware that the system needs a major overhaul. I'd say that makes him bright.

Unknown: You are suicidal because you have alot of mess in your life and you are possible clinically depressed. Get help. You are wasting your time coming here and trying to get attention. Call a hotline, call a doctor, or call a friend or relative. Don’t just give up. That’s nuts.

  10. The current method of educating our students in this country is relatively new.  It has been only a few generations that we've stuffed so many kids in a classroom seperated by age. Since we know nothing else, we accept this as the right way.

The public education system in my town is terrible.  I have nothing against teachers as my father, cousin, & sister-in-law are all teachers.  I believe for one that age segregation is a bad idea.  It creates too much peer pressure.  Kids try to measure up to some impossible standard and suffer from not being able to.  Home schooling allows the family to mirror back to the student that he/she is valuable.

Students can learn at their own pace with homeschooling instead of having to slow down or speed up depending on the rest of the class.  The student can also explore areas of special interest instead of being told to put that subject away as it is time to move on.

Public schools tend to spend a tremendous amount of time engaging in crowd control.  The homeschool student saves many hours a week by avoiding this. The student teacher ratio is obviously much better, also the student can obtain extra help from teacher without fear of looking stupid.

If done properly home education evolves into a learning lifestyle.  The student is allowed to explore his/her subject more deeply, ie, planting a garden, learning about soil conditions, pests, plant disease, crop rotation, composting... Sure beats reading about it and looking at pictures in a textbook! The lesson does not have to end at the semester break but can be carried on year after year to watch for patterns in nature, for example.  There is more hands-on with this approach and more retention.  The subject can be fluid, not fragmented.

Some people believe the home education teacher must have a degree in order to successfully teach. Nay, nay, if this were the answer, then why are our public schools (full of professionals) not cranking out super achievers?

Also, you are totally right about too much homework!!! I've got 6 kids & have sufferred with some of them thru the public education system.   The kids are assigned literally hours of homework each night (even 1st graders). They have no time to go outside, ride their bikes and burn off steam.  Kids are not designed to remain dormant for so many hours each day.  The good students (my step-daughter) are then ridiculed for being overweight!!! "You need to go outside and play." her teachers tell her.  O.K. when?  The poor kid is so used to sitting still  all week, going outside soon becomes foreign, and more difficult.

Home education done properly is far superior to public school.

  11. yes it is bad.

The socialization skills are becoming notorious.

    ALL the boys are perverts

ALL the girls are try to act stupid so they can get ugly boyfriends.

The teachers are all ignorant about kids. (my friend was doing a wanted poster......her teacher taught them to say WOhn-TAHD)

    Bad kids don't get punished.

its seems the only real decent year in school.is kindergarden.

  12. Quick answer from me because I need to go to work ...at the school.   I homeschool my son and work as a classified employee at the public high school.

We need to turn the teachers back into teachers and give them the power to do what they want to do: teach.

I honestly think that public school should be for those who want to learn.  If a student does not want to learn, they should be sent home to mom and/or dad and let them help their children figure out what the real world looks like.

Teachers should not be required to be baby sitters or wardens.

The "no child left behind" is a good idea but it only gives more pressure on teachers to force an education on students who do not want to learn.

If a public education is a privilege instead of a 'right', then it will be more appreciated by young people.   Kick a few out for bad behaviour, disrespect, failure to do assignments, etc and I think they will wake up that this is THEIR education and they should be responsible to learn what is taught.

You can get an education anywhere.  It is up to you.
