Question:

Public School vs Catholic? Private Schools?

Okay, so, a lot of people who go to catholic schools are saying the teachers are nicer, and like, the classes are easier to control.

Now, even though I have no religion, I'm not against any either. But I'm honestly wondering-- is that really true? Because where I am, the kids who get kicked out of the TDSB (Toronto District School Board) end up going to the catholic school near-by.

So, is there any difference other than what they teach?

And, also, I'm writing a story, and I'm having trouble creating the school. The thing is, I need it to be a really nice school, maybe as nice as a pricate school, even. But I also need it to not be restricted to only girls/boys. Do they have something like this? Does it have to be a private school? Or are there insanely great public schools? Or even laid-back private schools.

Its really difficult, I need the school to be in a wealthy area, male and female, as well as not as harsh as a private school. Is this possible, or do I have to do a rewrite?

Thankyou,

x Caroline

  1. if you go to catholic school you will learn there religion. i went to 3 different ones. i got kicked out of 2 and pulled out of 1 but and going to another one right now. personally i loved them. dont ask why i got kicked out stupid misunderstanding so nothing to worry about. if i were to chose i would go with catholic!!!

  2. I am in 10th grade and I go to public school. For K-2nd grade, I went to Catholic school. I really didnt see much of a difference. At Catholic school, my teachers seemed more strict. There was only one class with 35 kids per grade so I guess the administration had more control of the kids. In public, its a lot more relaxed I guess. You dont have to wear uniforms and stuff like that but the curriculum was the same "level", With around 200 kids per class, they still do good.

  3. There are some bad private schools as well. Maybe there are alot of s****. girls. There will ALWAYS be one rich girl who acts snobbish at a high schools. If there is tuition for a high school thats like 11,000, you can expect there will be A LOT of s****. girl. Why don't you put public. More people can relate to it. There ARE great public schools as well as private. It depends on the teachers, principal, school and the students mostly.

If you want a good school, put Ursuline School in NY. The area is VERY wealthy but tuition is 12,000+ annually. I don't know if its not as harsh but I heard people say its snottish and there are alot of sk@nks.

  4. Sorry, but in todaysworld, the public, & private schools are terrible. Thats why so many parents are now, like me going to homeschooling, to make sure their children get the PROPER education their child needs!

Alot of the schools are more concerend about how much they pay their teachers, how about thinking about what they need to educate our children. How about the material they need. Instead they skip the material to pay our teachers more, so they can live the life they want, & let the children slip through the cracks!

  5. If you decide to go to catholic school you can go. Some of the lessons are pretty easy. I was only in catholic school for 4 years. I didn't really like catholic school that much. But I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. And, you'll probably learn the private school's religion. Also, if you go to catholic school, you are going to learn catholic religion.

    Good Luck!

  6. In my opinion, since you're the one writing the story you can make any kind of school you want, and it can be however you want. It doesn't have to be complete reality to write about it. Just use your imagination.

    Good Luck! :)

  7. I've been in private schools all my life, both my grade school and high school were catholic, but my university has no affliation. My parents allowed us to choose where we went to high school, I went to the catholic school and my brother went into the public system. I was always more driven than him, however I believe that if my parents had forced him to go to school with me he would have gone to college as well. It's an entirely different experience, there are no disruptions and college preparation is far better in a private school.

As for your story, my younger cousins live in a very exclusive affluent community and attend a public school. Their school is called an academy and is basically a private school, except their uniform policy is more lax than a cathlic school and there are no theology classes.

    Good luck
