  1. "Why are people afraid to think for themselves?"

In any speech, begin with an OUTLINE, and stick to it.  Most speeches fail because people deviate from their plan.

Any topic that causes something to think will be interesting.  Thought provoking ideas, and questions, even the bizarre, or unforeseen, or taboo could be extremely liberating to people when you are asking them to consider an idea.  Especially if it's original.

Why did you come here to Yahoo Answers and ask us to "find an interesting 'Why' topic", and how could we possibly convey how you should 'present' yourself during your 'public speaking competition' ?

This magical topic must come from you.  You are the presenter.  Your eye contact, your facial expressions, your passions, convictions, ebb and flow of speech must be convincing!  You cannot look a bunch of people in the eye, and deliver someone else's ideas and curiosities.

Write down your own topic ideas.  You may win the competition.

  2. WHY...

are manners as important today as they were in the past?

are some people never ready to forgive the past, much less forget it?

do birds suddenly appear every time you are near? (sorry.. that one just popped in there!)

do some people think that words have no meanings?

As for presenting them, well... that may be inspired by the topic and the research you do into it.  GOOD LUCK!  I judge forensics at our local college, and find it always interesting!

    Have a polite day.
