Question:

Public Speaking When You're An Accountant?

I was just wondering, do accountants have to do any public speaking, as in speeches, or talking in front of people at meetings or anything like that? Or is it just dealing with people normally, as in talking to individual people?

  1. Most public accountants deal with people one-on-one depending on what kind of accountancy they are in. If they just prepare tax returns for individuals, they'll just see clients.  However, if the accountant decides to work in-house for a major corporation, he (or she) may be called upon to give presentations regarding accounting procedures or reports to a board meeting or other type of meeting.

If you are nervous about speaking in front of other people, you can join a local Toastmasters group. They are folks who have issues speaking in front of others and they help each other with speech writing, getting over being nervous, and other good tips. They typically meet once a week for about an hour and they're good people of all ages.
