Can you name 3 reasons as to why we should send our kids to a bad public school system BESIDES socialization or a poor education? Remember in America the education is light years behind the education received in other industrialized nations.

  1. The public schools are "bad" because people like you and others don't to give them adequate funding for the tasks they are expected to perform.

There also too many people getting on school boards with personal agendas, like religious pap ,etc, instead of a sound education for our children

  2. Public School's are not "bad".. if you want your child to learn everything the real way and not in some private school where they make them dress up like clowns and don't allow them to wear what they want to express their self's .. and there's just as much socialization in private schools as public schools..

  3. Why ask the question if you're not open to the answers? I wouldn't give anyone three reasons for a decision that isn't mine to make for them.  Your self worth as a homeschooling parent should come from your child's success, not critiquing others and pointing out their shortcommings.

    Edit:

I'm curious about what people think are the advantages of homeschooling for THEIR OWN children, that's why I look at the questions.  I've thought about homeschooling. I answered because I wanted to make the point that you aren't asking a question.  You're stating your opinions and looking for affirmation. You don't need me to validate your decisions and I don't need you to do the same for me.  It's a waste of energy to validate yourself on the failure of others.

  4. I think all the main reasons I can think of are all Psychological reasons why they should go.

But it seems it wouldn't be worth the effort or the time explaining.

  5. Well to be honest, I find the question to be a bit narrow-minded. Its like saying there are no good restaurants in ____ city.  The public school system of the United States is very complex and diverse from state to state, city to city, and even from school to school. You have to look at each SCHOOL separately- not just the whole system in general. I am a former public school teacher and mother of 3. I am also in a situation where I could send our children to any private school in our area if we chose to. However, I look at each school individually. We took our time to research specific schools in our area. I looked at more than just what "grade" the school received. I looked at safety, I looked at what sort of degree the majority of teachers at each school had and I also checked out what systems they used for making sure children were successful at their school. We were able to find a FANTASTIC public school. One of our children is extremely gifted and requires extra services each week that I know she would not receive in a private school. My other school-aged child does wonderfully as well and I know without a doubt that my children LOVE being there, love learning and feel safe. Another thing my children get from public school is tolerance for others. They are surrounded by children from all types of homes, all nationalities and many different disabilities as well. So, where you chose to send your child is the choice you have to make. But please don't be so close-minded to the whole system.

  6. 1)  Cheap Day Care

    2) Parents unable to home educate

    3) Abusive home environment

Oh, sorry, I'm not a public school advocate.  but thats all I could come up with.
