  1. I prefer public, however it really is what you are used to. I have tried both, and I really favor public school. If you have been home schooled for a long time, stay there. If you have been public schooled for a long time, stay there. Change only if you really dont like one, not if you just want to try the other.

  2. I went to public school.

Advantages of home school: More one on one instruction, ability to work at your own pace (faster/slower), fewer interruptions (bullying, peer pressure, etc.),

Disadvantages: social, but if the child can still be involved with sports and other outside of school activities then that's even better

  3. I prefer public schools.....especially if its a good one.....home schooling makes kids miss out on a social life and they won't be able to learn important things in life, like how to mingle with others or making connections. Even other things such as, public speaking,  making presentations....only school can really prepa for that.

  4. My mom did the perfect balance.  My siblings and I were home school Through 6th grade and then we went to high school...it was private school.

I enjoyed both aspects for different reasons.

  5. I actually prefer to do public school over home school.. I know public school can be annoying, and mostly you will get sick of all the drama that goes on .. but at the end its all worth it because you meet the greatest people which become your close friends. Home school will not get you that!

  6. home school

  7. I personally prefer homeschool, as does my son, but there are good public schools too.  And honestly, just like not every student is cut out for public school, not every student is cut out to homeschool.  That would be why we have options.

And in response to the above poster:

"home schooling makes kids miss out on a social life and they won't be able to learn important things in life, like how to mingle with others or making connections. Even other things such as, public speaking, making presentations....only school can really prepa for that."

Homeschool kids often have a richer social life than their classroom schooled peers, because they're not sitting in a classroom with the same 30 kids day in and day out - or rushing to get to class with less than 5 minutes to cross a building, get to their locker, use the restroom, grab their books, make sure they've got their homework, and get in their seat on time.  Homeschool kids can go places during the day, be involved in the community, have playdates/hang out with their friends more often because they don't have 6-8 hours of school and 1-4 hours of homework, on top of sports, job, and lessons.

Instead, they have 3-6 hours of school per day, including lessons, homework, and extra projects that there just isn't time to even touch in public schools.  They also don't have to take NCLB tests, so they can focus on their actual schoolwork rather than passing some absurd test so their teachers can keep their jobs.

As far as public speaking, presentations, etc - they get plenty of opportunities to do this.  They have co op classes, geography and science fairs, and college classes (concurrent enrollment/early graduation) to prepare them for this; they also get to take part in Toastmasters, debate classes, and interning in government offices.  Poor kids.  No dear, not only school can "prepa" you for that.  LIFE prepares you for that, which homeschooled kids live and learn in every day.

(I teach homeschooled teenagers that intern at the capitol, shadow doctors at the hospital, and intern in professional offices; I also know younger kids - elementary and middle school - including my own that have been interviewed in newspapers and on the news, made presentations to presidents and boards of corporations, and accepted public awards.  Trust me, they're not missing out in any way.)

Both can be good, if the student chooses to take advantage of them; I prefer homeschool, but it all depends on the student and the available school system.

  8. Did you hear about the judge ruling about homeschooling?, something about now they want you to have teaching credentials, or you can't do it, they seem to be working on that, you should research this first. I myself prefer private schoolin over public but not home schooling, although it is better, if you are anything like me you can't get your kids to do anything without a big fight, thanks to their mom, yeah now she comes to me about it, she should've thought about that when I tried to raise them correctly from small kids, anyway, I can't even get my kid to do her homework, much less homeschool, forget it, not for me, so they have to go to public school, money's been tight right now for private.

  9. Homeschool :D

There are more opportunities available to homeschoolers, in all aspects of life.  There are more people with whom to interact, so you get a more varied social life with people of different ages and backgrounds.  There are more things to see in the world outside of a classroom.  And homeschooling allows for classroom time as well, just not as much so that you don't have to miss out life.

    :D

  10. Since public schools have been primarily liberal indoctrination centers for the last 40 years, home schooling is the preferred method for those parents who think that a quality education is a priority for their children.  Some have said that a child needs public school for it's social life, public speaking, etc.  There are other sources for socialization than school, such as home school support groups.  If they want to learn public speaking there is probably a junior division of Toastmasters, which would give the child truly superior training in adressing groups of people.  My children and granddaughter attended public school and are now paying the price.   Both of our kids are unabashed liberals who have no idea what conservatism is about, because I neglected to teach them.  Our granddaughter was a straight A student in a non challenging secondary school environment.  She is now a freshman in college and is struggling.  She said she had no idea it would be so hard.  She was not even able to compete for scholarships because she was unprepared.  Teach your kids yourselves!  Find out what they need to know in order to be competative and make sure they learn it at home, minus all of the social engineering forced on them in public school.  Teach them conservative values so that when they do get to college they will see through the normal indoctrination processes.

  11. H school

  12. My Grandmother taught public school, both my parents attended public school, as did my sister and I and so do/did our children. Public school is what you make of it. You have to WANT to learn and not be sidetracked by the idiots who don't or whose parents are only looking for a babysitter!

OOPS! SORRY! This is kind of a touchy subject for me...

  13. Homeschool.

    I went to public school

Pre-school through my sophomore year in High school

This is my first year out of public school

and I am now doing my schooling Online

    I skipped my junior year

and for that matter now I am a Senior

    I absolutely love online

rather than a brick and mortar school

The online school IS a public school

and you still get the association with

other students doing the school online

    because they have a forum

I used to hate school and I could not wait to

    get out of school

the thought of dropping out was

    always there

But now that I am doing online schooling

    I absolutely love it

    and am dreading graduating

  14. My daughter says she prefers homeschool.

  15. Public - more like real life...different people, situations, etc..

  16. Homeschool!

  17. Home school is better.Trust me. I don't go to H School but I know people that do and they say its awesome!

  18. Depends on the situation in question.

There are kids out there miserable in homeschooling because their families have too many issues; they would probably be better off in public school. I would have been one of those cases--homeschooling would have been horrendous for me.

However, homeschooling is great for families that make it great. We really enjoy homeschooling our kids. They enjoy it. I hope they never have to attend public school. My kids hope they never have to attend public school. ;)

  19. Everyone in my family says homeschool.  But then again, my brother, sister, and I were all homeschooled so we are a little biased. :-)

  20. im in the 9th grade and ive been homeschooles my whole life and i love it.  i don't miss out on anything.  i have good friends and there's nothing that i would change.  hope i helped

  21. I've done both.  and to be honest, I like homeschooling better.  People say I'm "sheltered" and "miss out" but I really don't.  I have friends, I've been through everything other kids my age have except no one has ever offered me drugs and I don't cuss.  those are the only things that differ me from public school kids.  I used to have problems talking to kids who weren't HSed like me, but I'm fine with it now.  I have friends, a lot of friends.  and all the ones who go to public school (with the exception of one because she doesn't wanna be around her younger sibs all day) have told me that they'd love to do I do and not be around stupid high school drama.  But I was always emotionally hurt in public school.  Whether some kid thought the idea of having a crush on me was disgusting, or someone was groping me on the bus, I NEVER had a good public school experience!  I've gone to both a public elementery and middle school, and have been homeschooled for 6 1/2 years.  I'm a high schooler now, and I think I'm better off this way.  All my homeschooled friends love it too.  there are tons of co-ops for us and we can even go to school for a couple classes then come home and do school.  that's what I did in middle school.

  22. It doesn't matter. No matter which one you pick, your child will hate you for not picking the other one.

  23. public school...

  24. I've never been homeschooled, but public school teaches to the test too much, so I'd say home school (sometimes).

  25. Homeschooling!!
