  1. If you want to do independent study, you need to be:

    -self motivated

    -not easily distracted

-able to keep up with assignments, and

-able to work on your own, without much guidance.

In addition, you would have to get used to not being around your friends as much as you are currently.

However, if you are having serious problems with public school and think you can handle the course load, then independent study may be a good choice.

  2. public school,,,,if you went to homeschooling, youd play video games all day!

  3. I do independent studies at home and have realized that you have to be very responsible and organized to do this program. It works well for me and I enjoy it a lot more than normal public school. The independent study program in your area may lack some classes you would be required to take in order to graduate (mine does; it lacks foreign languages, lab classes like science, art classes, etc.) but those can be completed through a junior college once you turn 16. I had to switch because of medical issues, but it is the best decision I have made for my education in a very long time. Hopefully it works out as well for you as it does for me! Good luck! :)

  4. Are you the type to make sure you get your work done? Would you appreciate, but not take advantage of, having a more flexible schedule? Will you make sure to participate in activities so you get some social time? Are your parents supportive of this?

If you can answer yes to ALL of the above, then go for it. It's quite common for teens to have their sleep cycles change for a few years which can make early rising very difficult. Lack of sleep actually drops results on IQ tests. So, if you are able to make yourself work AND get the sleep you need, you'll probably find your studies will go even better than before.

And Harley, just because YOU would play video games all day doesn't mean everybody else would.
