Public transport from cookham, berskshire to chertsey?

On friday afternoon (about half two) I need to go from Cookham to Chertsey. When I stuck this into thetrainline.com they said to change at Maidenhead, Reading(!), Virginia water, then arriving in Chertsey, the whole journey taking 1 hour 40 mins! I know they are both small places but there's gotta be more direct way! Maybe getting a bus from Maidenhead? I can't drive but would consider any other option so long as it's not too expensive. Thanks for your help.

I've checked and had the same result as you. The trouble is that travelling around London isn't that easy, if the two places concerned aren't directly linked. Cookham is on a branch line, Reading is the interchange from services out of Paddington to services out of Waterloo, hence your need to change there. Unfortunately, however, there is no direct service to Chertsey from that station, hence the need to change again. I checked a journey via central London, but that takes even longer - over two hours. I've also checked with www.travelinesoutheast.org.uk and to use the bus would take two changes (Windsor and Staines) and would take two hours from Maidenhead.

There is not a more direct route, the trainline was right.
