The ex-Lankan cricketer has been making a name for himself in the coaching business after leading the Canadian side to the last International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) World Cup. However, soon after the championship, Dassanayake stepped down from the post, after
instructing the Canadians for four years.
Apart from his experience with the Canadian squad, the former batsman also holds Level 3 coaching qualifications from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
As for his new appointment, Dassanayake said that he had started exchanging e-mails with the Cricket Association of Nepal after the World Cup, and had showed his interest in taking on the role.
“It was during the World Cup that the Cricket Association of Nepal and I exchanged a few mails,” Dassanayake said. “I had expressed my interest to take on the role of head coach”.

Dassanayake spent a limited international cricket career with his home-side, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, which took off in 1993 with a Test match against the South Africans.
A month later, the player also premiered in his first ever One Day International (ODI) game against the same opponents.

In 2001, Dassanayake once again revived his cricket career, but this time with the Canadian side, where the former batsman represented the side during the 2005 World Cup Qualifiers and then as the team’s Captain during the Intercontinental Cup.
