Pubudu Dassanayake not looking to renew his contract as Cricket Canada coach
Pubudu Dassanayake, the head coach of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 cricket team has decided not to extend his contract with the Cricket Canada once his three-year contract expires at the end of April 2011.
Dassanayake took over as the Canada coach back in 2007 and the side saw massive improvements both on and off the field under his coaching. However, the disappointing performance of the team in the recently concluded ICC World Cup
2011 could have been one of the most realistic reasons behind his decision of not renewing his contract after three years. Canada managed to win just one game from their six group matches.
The former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 wicketkeeper, who has played 11 Test matches and 16 One Day Internationals in his one-year long international career, thanked the Canada Cricket board and the cricket community in the country for their support.
“I would like to thank the organization and the cricket community in Canada for the warm support our team has received over the past three years,” said Dassanayake. “I would also like to express my sincere appreciation for those
of you who supported me personally over the years and those who gave their time and efforts to help the team achieve so much in such a short time.”
Although Dassanayake is stepping down from the high profile coaching post, he assured his availability to assist the team in whatever capacity he could in the future.
“I will always be available to assist Canadian cricket in whatever capacity I can to ensure that we keep moving forward and continue to build on what we have started,” he said. “Over the past three years we have taken massive steps
both on and off the field and we now sit on the cusp of doing something very special on the international cricket scene.”
The 40-year-old Kandy-born admitted that it was not an easy tenure with the Cricket Canada. However, he said that he was proud of his contribution to country’s cricket. He also wished the very best of luck to the players as well
as to Cricket Canada in their future assignments.
